| Tomato sector highlighted in Morocco on 9 September | | | | 2009-11-18 17:50:48 | | | At the World Fruit & Vegetable show, the Princess of Morocco held a speech about the fresh produce industry sector of her country. "Under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has embarked on a path of major development of its economy. The Agricultural sector is by far one of the most important ones. Morocco benefits from vast natural resources, fertile lands and favorable climate and the new Green Pan will drastically modernize, change and reform the overall Agricultural landscape of my country."
One day before the SIFEL, the 1st edition of Agriconferences 2009 will discuss the issues of the tomato sector in Morocco. More than 500 tomato professionals from Europe and Africa will experience the latest trends in the tomato sector first hand and make valuable contacts in the process. Producers, exporters, national and international experts in agronomy, suppliers, logisticians and institutionals are all participating to this conference.Interventions willcoverthe following topics:
-The relations between Morocco and the European Union, including the advanced status, the Union for the Mediterranean and the ongoing agricultural negotiations.
?Technical performance: the current greenhouses are outdated. They cause climate control problems and lack protection against diseases and pests. Sophisticated types of houses are more than ever necessary to compete with technically advanced countries.
-The market: currently 90% of tomato's export flow is captured by the market of St. Charles. This hub serves the rest of Europe. With the emergence of new opportunities for shipping, other alternatives become possible: direct lines to various ports (France, Belgium, Holland). All these possibilities must be explored and coordinated with the entire profession.
